Short courses are short-time events that present an overview of a relevant research topic or technology to the IS community. The main purpose of a short course is to provide an opportunity for the audience to learn about an issue that it is related to their current work as well as to extract new information that could be considered on their research or practical activities.

We invite IS community to propose short courses for the 13th edition of SBSI (SBSI 2017). Short courses can present a relevant issue in an introductory or advanced way, and must be related to the topics of interest of the symposium.

The expected audience for the short courses to be presented at SBSI 2017 are undergradute students (preferably), graduate students and professionals. They can cover fundamentals (introductory short courses) or emerging technologies (advanced short courses) related to IS.

A short course proposal must be submitted electronically through the track “SBSI 2017 – Minicursos” of SBC JEMS platform.

We have two phases for submission of short courses. In the first phase, a short course proposal must be sent for evaluation and, in the second phase, the detailed short course content must be submitted (text and slides).

In the first phase, a short course proposal must be written in English or Portuguese. It must be limited to 4 pages, including the following information:

• Title, authors and affiliations;
• Abstract (limited to 200 words);
• Short course description, including the goals, technical requirements (software and computers) and the short course type (introductory or advanced);
• Methodology/didactics approach to be used;
• Short course duration (4 hours or 8 hours);
• Relevance to SBSI 2017;
• A preview of the main topics and programmatic content;
• Main bibliographic references;
• Language to be considered for the minicourse presentation (Portuguese or English);
• Mini CV of the authors

In the second phase, authors of an accepted short course must submit a final text, to be published as a chapter of an online book, respecting the template of SBC papers: 20 to 30 pages, for 4 hours-lenght short courses, or 30 to 40 pages, for 8 hours-lenght short courses.

Papers in Portuguese must incude an additional title and abstract in English, and authors are expected to authorize the publishing of the short course abstract at the SBSI 2017 website.

A short course presentation will be divided in 2 hours-lenght sessions. Slides will be made available in digital media with the SBSI proceedings and/or at the symposuim website.

Traditionally, SBSI provides financial support to the travel (inside Brazil territory) and daily rates of one of the accepted short courses’ authors. SBSI 2017 organizers will try to provide such a support again.
